HyperLEDA: compilation of central velocity dispersion

This catalogue is an updated version of the catalogue distributed as an Appendix to a paper by Prugniel and Simien (1996) . A first update, released in 1996 July, has added about 600 new velocity dispersion measurements and 200 rotation velocity measurements from 45 references.
The current version (March 2006) counts 8596 velocity dispersion measurements and 1615 rotation measurements from respectively 391 and 230 different sources.

The original version (1995) is available from the CDS (anonymous ftp 130.79.128.5), or can be accessed through VizieR.

These data may also be consulted via HyperLeda, the catalogue browser and database interface that we are currently developing.

Compilations of velocity dispersion are also available from other sources:

D. McElroy has published a compilation in 1995. Our catalogue has included his. A description is available on the Web, and the data can be obtained from the author in computer-readable form. This catalogue contains 2474 measurements of 1563 galaxies.
